January 28th, Data Privacy Day 2025 was celebrated, with data protection authorities engaging in various activities to raise awareness. Our firm, through Partner Tiago Assunção, and Associate António Coelho, took part in 2 webinars hosted by OneTrust and IAPP.

Data Privacy Day: Privacy Predictions 2025

Hosted by OneTrust, explored the evolving landscape of privacy concerns in response to rapid advancements in AI, tightening regulations, and rising cybersecurity threats. Featured speakers included Annick O’Brien, CIPP/E, CIPM, General Counsel at CybSafe; Barry Cook, MSLS, Data Privacy Consultant; Marc Elshof, Partner at BarentsKrans; and Yasmin Hinds, Global Head of Privacy at Pontoon Solutions

The webinar was divided into two main areas of discussion, which were Privacy Concerns for 2025, including AI-Driven Privacy Concerns, Data Privacy Regulations, and Biometric Privacy, and on the other area of discussion, Key Predictions for 2025, the speakers discussed the Increase of Cyberattacks, Data Breaches, and Privacy Regulations. At the start of the discussion was the impact of leadership changes, the shifting of diplomatic alliances and its effect on data flows, and the issue of digital sovereignty.
